What to look for in a razor subscription box
Most razor subscription services allow you to customise your delivery times to fit in with your routine. And with services available for both men and women – from full starter kits to a simple set of fresh blades – there’s one to suit everyone's needs.
There are a few variables to keep in mind when making your choice, though.
Add-ons: Suffer from sensitive skin? Or keen to avoid razor burns? Then look out for services that offer the option to add on a shaving foam or moisturiser.
Eco-friendly solutions: This term gets thrown around a lot, but with billions of plastic razors ending up in landfill every year, looking at what your razor is made of and the packaging it comes in can make a difference. Most subscription boxes use less plastic packaging than you usually get in store (as products aren't individually wrapped), and razors are made from materials such as steel or brass to make sure they last longer than a cheaper plastic option.
Design: If you're a perfectionist looking for a smooth shave, it's worth looking at whether the blades themselves have any additional extras (such as being coated with aloe and shea butter) to help achieve silkier skin.
How we test
We trialled 11 razor delivery services with our panel of 165 testers, to see which subscription came out on top.
Our testers tried them out over eight weeks, grading them on how convenient the delivery was, how easy the products were to use, and how well each razor got rid of hair.
These are the services they rate.
Score: 85/100
Grüum razors can be used on the face or body, and the razor heads are infused with moisturising pads to reduce irritation. The cartridges can also be recycled using the brand's own scheme.
The high-grade steel is designed to reduce drag and provide a comfortable shave. Everyone found the blades easy to clean and agreed the handle felt high-quality, while the blades remained rust-free throughout the trial.
While all were happy with the delivery service they received, one tester in particular raved about the customer service after an accidental breakage in the shower; in just 24 hours, she was shipped a new razor head.

You can add everything from a shaving cream to a scrub to your order here, and skip, add or cancel a delivery at any time. FFS’s subscription is all about tailoring the service to your needs.
The blades are designed to last for up to seven shaves and once you're done, they can be sent back to the brand to be recycled. The packaging is also 100% FSC approved.
The majority of testers found the razor removed stray hairs in just one swipe, leaving everyone with smoother legs. Most of our panel agreed it provided a gentle shave, and liked the modern, fun packaging.

Everyone found this caught any stragglers in its path, leaving all with smoother skin. Despite being gentle and comfortable for all, it still delivered an ultra-close shave, with everyone happy with how sharp the blades stayed.
The presentation of the kit scored highly, too. And while the razor head was larger than expected, this didn't hinder any of our testers' experience.

Estrid makes that boring beauty admin a little more fun with its brightly coloured kits.
Testers enjoyed the pastel-coloured razors, while the blades gave a gentle shave. They stayed sharp too, and didn't rust, with everyone happy with how straightforward they were to use.
One tester said they "loved how the package was able to fit through the letterbox, meaning you aren't waiting around for a delivery. The packaging itself is simple yet pretty, and fully recyclable".

Designed with uniquely spaced blades to prevent clogging, these high-quality razor heads are also coated in a layer of titanium and diamond-grade carbon to make them up for any task.
The blades eliminated hair effectively for all, and everyone said they experienced a close yet gentle shave, which left behind silky-soft skin.
Note: the ordering process was trickier than most on our list – there's no advice on how many blades are needed (the usual recommendation is changing them every 5-7 shaves) and no Paypal or Apple pay options. However, the delivery service was efficient, coming in letterbox-friendly packaging.
